What are the healthiest types of cookies?

The healthiest types of cookies are those that use either low or no sugar. You can also consider baking them without butter and swapping white flour with whole wheat or even 100% oats.

So, think about oatmeal cookies without sugar and butter, or dark chocolate chip cookies without any added sugar or butter.

If you are opting for dark chocolate, make sure it is 70% or more. My personal favorite is 95% and up because you get that real and authentic chocolatey taste.

And if you want to make them sweet without added sugar, you can always use dates or even bananas. Since bananas have more moisture compared to sugar, you can slice half and smash it.

How healthy are oatmeal cookies?

Oatmeal cookies can be unhealthy or healthy depending on how you make them.

If you want a truly healthy version, consider using all oatmeal as the batter without any flour. You may also want to ditch the sugar and butter. Sugar substitutes can include dates, bananas, or even topped with 70% dark chocolate chip.

Are oatmeal raisin cookies healthy?

According to WebMD, Raisins are a good source of soluble fiber, which aids digestion and reduces stomach issues. However, due to their high sugar and calorie content, you may want to eat them in moderation, which means you can try reducing the amount of raisins used in your cookie.

To make your raisin cookie healthier and more interesting, you can mix it with dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is high in magnesium, iron, and other antioxidants. According to medical sources like Healthline, many studies show that dark chocolate — the ones like 80% and up that aren’t loaded with sugar and bad fats — is a heart-healthy treat.

Are homemade cookies healthy?

Not all homemade cookies are healthy, as it depends on the ingredients you use.

If you use the same ingredients as those sold in most bakeries and grocery stores, you will be consuming a dessert that is just as unhealthy.

I love baking homemade cookies because I get to control the ingredients. I can choose organic products, skip the butter (or use pure ghee that is grass-fed), decide on the type of oats, limit the amount of sugar (I typically don’t add any), substitute it with bananas, use dark chocolate as a topping, and so much more!

What I love even more about homemade cookies is that even though I choose higher-quality ingredients that might be seen as “expensive”, the reality is they often cost much less than the conventional and unhealthy cookies you buy at bakeries or grocery stores!
