Many women commonly ask how to get perfect skin or how to get smooth and radiant skin?
If you are anything like me, you probably thought that spending money on the most expensive skincare products was going to solve your problem.
While following a good skincare regime helps, many women don’t realize that just by getting rid of bad habits can aid in improving the appearance of their skin.
If anything, adopting good habits likely play a bigger role than spending thousands of dollars on a skincare regime that doesn’t seem to hold up to its promise.
I’m not saying that skincare products don’t work, but learning how to get smooth and perfect skin involves more than just that.
And while going for a simple botox may help your skin look good for 3 to 6 months before going for another treatment that costs on average $300 to $400, what most women aren’t aware of is that following these healthy habits can also significantly improve your skin’s radiance along with glow in the long run.
The beauty of perfect skin is that it doesn’t always have to cost a fortune!
Here are 10 habits of women who have flawless skin without dumping a lot of money.

1. Protect skin from the harmful sun
If you don’t follow beauty or skincare topics, you may not realize how vital it is to protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun.
Think getting a tan or baking in the sun will make you look sexy?
Think again.
So many dermatologists and beauty experts couldn’t stress enough the importance of applying sunscreen on your skin on a DAILY basis before heading out to prevent it from wrinkling, aging, and other serious skin diseases down the road.
This means turning it into a daily habit (including the wintertime and rainy days) to apply sunscreen on your face and any skin area that gets exposed to the sun.
Numerous reliable sources including dermatologist say that not applying sunscreen is one of the reasons why many young women experience the early signs aging!
Now that you know that staying protected from the sun is vital to skincare, I highly recommend starting off with a simple and affordable sunscreen product like this one. Any product between 30 to 50 SPF is more than enough.
2. Follow the perfect skincare routine that works for YOU
Finding the right skincare products can be very overwhelming and confusing especially for those of you who are new to this.
Some of you may have tried thousands of products for many years that failed to work.
This has happened to me SO many times in the past where I wasted hundreds to thousands of dollars on products to realize they made no difference.
Just washing my face with this basic Korean cleanser, moisturizing, wearing sunscreen before going out, drinking water and eating healthy had more prominent effects than the lousy expensive skincare products I used.
However, I eventually realized that finding the perfect skincare regime that actually works starts with you learning and understanding what type of skin you have – that’s normal, dry, oily, combination or anywhere in between these. Everyone’s skin is different and we all react to different ingredients!
Get free skincare samples to test on your skin
I recommend finding out what your skin type is and buy products based on that. Also, you can ask for free beauty and skincare samples here to try out before investing in the product. You’ll save so much money and avoid feeling scammed!
This requires research, patience and learning more about your skin but it will be very worthwhile once you finally find the products that work for your skin type – trust me!

3. Wear a sun hat during the sunny days
I’m still harping on the topic of protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful radiation because I can’t emphasize enough on how important it is to stay protected!
Ever wondered how so many Asian women look young with smooth and flawless skin? Some in their 40s still look like they are in their 20s without using a lot of botox, fillers or surgery!
Not only do they apply sunscreen and follow a skincare routine that works for them, they also protect their skin from tanning by using an umbrella on a hot sunny day.
In America, you may not do that but you can invest in a beautiful sun hat this one which will match most of your everyday outfits. Your sun hat along with a dab of sunscreen on the skin will do the basic job of protecting your face from the sun’s harmful rays.
4. Stay hydrated for clear skin
You often hear health authorities say that the average adult should be drinking 8-ounce glass, which is equivalent to 2 liters, of water every day.
Making it a habit to stay hydrated can help prevent many health problems down the road.
According to source, drinking at least 8 glasses a day will help rid the body and skin of toxins.
You’ll hear many controversies of whether water can help achieve the perfect skin you want – some say it works and some say it has no effect.
What we know is that many people have attested that drinking more water has made their skin more radiant with a glow. Those who suffer from acne have reported the same results.
I definitely see a huge difference in my skin and the way I feel just by staying hydrated!
Seeing these results can only happen when you change your lifestyle, so make it a habit to cut the sugary drinks and replace it with water.
For natural flavor, wash and cut slices of lemon for a more refreshing feel!
Whether it’s proven or not that water improves your skin, what we know for sure is that increasing your consumption of water is always beneficial to your overall health.
5. Get good sleep for perfect skin
They always say to “go get your beauty sleep” and for good reasons.
Getting a good night’s sleep is vital to your skin’s health since it helps reduce your stress levels. And we all know that stress could potentially lead to acne, wrinkles and other skin problems.
According to a research about sleep deprivation on facial appearance, even just ONE night of poor sleep can cause:
- More wrinkles/fine lines
- Hanging eyelids
- More swollen eyes
- Darker circles under the eyes
- Paler skin
- More droopy corners of the mouth
So you can imagine that lacking sleep in the long term can cause permanent and damaging effects on your skin.
Regardless of how much you spend on high-quality skincare products, losing sleep cannot fix your skin or other related health problems.
6. Reduce stress
It could be that sleep deprivation is causing you to stress. I’ve had many nights where I get anxious about not being able to sleep – I mainly stressed because I couldn’t fall asleep.
Alternatively, it could be that stress is causing you to lose sleep. I’ve also had many nights where I would stress about work, family or a project which caused me to become sleep deprived.
Either way, stress is not good for your skin or overall health.
To reduce stress and anxiety, I highly recommend exercising on a regular basis to get your heart rate going. Skin is your body’s largest organ and just as exercise is healthy for your other organs, such as your heart, it also strengthens the skin’s ability to defend against aging and other damage.
According to a source, which mentioned a study from McMaster University, the moment your heart starts beating faster, muscles pump out more of a protein (IL-15) that powers skin cells’ mitochondria to act younger – over time that can make skin some 25 years younger at the microscopic level.
7. Avoid junk food for clear skin
While the occasional junk food or fast food won’t hurt, a habit of eating this regularly could be damaging your health in many ways.
We all know that too much junk food can cause weight gain, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.
What you may not have thought too much about is that fast foods with heavy carbs like french fries or potato chips may cause acne.
On top of that, according to a study, those who eat fast food at least three times a week are also more likely to develop eczema which is a skin condition is a condition where patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, red, cracked, and rough.
To start eating healthy, I recommend checking out this list of healthy foods on a budget.
There is a lot of truth behind the saying “you are what you eat”.
8. Eat healthy foods for perfect skin
Yes, you are what you eat!
So if you are fit and healthy, you’ll opt for fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based foods.
If you want to improve your skin, one of the best places to start is changing your eating habits. Believe me, you don’t have to give up tasty foods to become healthy!
Many reliable sources will agree that these are 10 delicious foods for clear and smooth skin.
- Wild salmon
- Avocados
- Nuts
- Seeds
- Bell peppers
- Broccoli
- Tomatoes
- Oranges
- Apples
- Dark chocolate
Of course, it’s okay to indulge in junk food once in a while, but this list is all the foods I eat on a regular basis and I can confidently say that I’ve seen a huge improvement! All of my acne also cleared just by eating healthy and drinking more water.
For beginners, you can check out this delicious list of cheap and budget-friendly healthy meals for $5 that can be easily made at home. Not only will you become healthier and feel better, you’ll also save so much money cutting junk food and takeouts.
Remember, to achieve the perfect skin you want involves making serious lifestyle changes to your eating habits – it’s about slowly making changes to your life and this doesn’t come overnight.
9. Do face yoga exercises to firm skin
All you need is to set 5 to 10 minutes aside every day to see the long term benefits of face yoga exercises. Even doing 2 to 3 minutes on a daily basis can yield some benefits.
Some women claimed they didn’t need any botox in their 30s and 40s because of these face yoga exercises.
This can help tighten skin, prevent wrinkles and sagging when you strengthen your facial muscles.
Just do a simple Google search for “face yoga exercises” and you’ll see a ton of results online.
I promise you that working out the muscles on your face is much easier than working out your body!
Exercising the face is very easy. The hardest part is turning it into a habit to do it 3 to 5 times a week.
However, if you’re serious about achieving the perfect skin, then I’m sure you won’t have a hard time turning it into a daily habit because your mind is already set to what it wants. 🙂
10. Always remove makeup before sleeping
I know many of you ladies had those nights where you were lazy or too tired to remove your make up.
Please don’t turn that into a habit – it’s not healthy and could damage your skin in the long run.
Sleeping in your makeup is so bad and toxic to your skin!
Set aside some time to remove it with a cleansing balm and wash your face with your favorite cleanser followed by your daily skincare routine.
Instead of using a cleansing balm, I like to use an organic, unrefined, virgin coconut oil to remove my makeup. It’s so effective at removing dirt along with ALL my makeup.
Don’t give up on achieving your perfect skin
Are you in your 20s, 30s, 40s, or even 50s where you think it’s too late to get the perfect skin?
No sweat.
Regardless of your age, it’s never too late to start making it a habit to wear sunscreen every day to prevent it from further damage.
If you’re too lazy or have no time to invest in a 3-step or 10-step skincare routine, the least you could do is use sunscreen alone and protect it from the sun. Be sure to wear a sun hat too. If you’re wondering, a classic baseball hat may help but it doesn’t cover your ears. You should protect your ears by applying sunscreen in this case.
As you can see, learning how to get smooth and perfect skin involves more than just spending money on the most expensive skincare products and medical procedures.
It involves making lifestyle changes that will benefit more than just having healthy smooth skin – it’s good for your overall health and wellness.
Other healthy habits to help you achieve the perfect skin are to eat healthy, exercise your body, get enough sleep, reduce your stress, and do a few face yoga exercises to lift/tighten your skin.
